FAQs

Our guide to help you get the most from printing in China.

What is the MOQ?

(Minimum Order Quantity)

Because no two paper and board products are the same, it’s hard to define an optimum MOQ, however we would suggest a starting quantity of around 5,000 units should make it more economical and best suited for printing and manufacturing with Hung Hing in China.

What are the lead times?

Again, there are many variances, so it’s difficult to give exact delivery times. However, we can provide a more tailored schedule if you let us know either when you expect to send us final artwork files, or when you would like your order to be delivered at destination or ready to ship.

  • Hung Hing will need around 3-4 weeks pre-production to finalise files, make proofs for you to approve, supply blank dummies/prototypes etc, before your product goes into bulk production.
  • For production and manufacturing, depending on the time of year and product complexity, this can range from 4–8 weeks.
  • Sea freight shipping and inland delivery from Hong Kong/China normally takes 4/5 weeks to land and deliver into a UK destination.

So all in all, around 3-4 months!

Can I have a rough idea of price?

Because each product produced is fairly unique and there are many varying factors involved, even very rough pricing is difficult to estimate, so we would ask for a complete product specification so we can provide a good initial guide. The more detail you can give us, the closer we can be to estimating against your needs. If there are more complex elements, please also provide any available dielines, templates, sample artwork etc too, all very helpful! Below are some of the key details we would need to know:

  • TPS (Trimmed Page Size) – finished size of your product
  • If a book, how many internal pages and whether a hardback case or paperback cover
  • Printing, for instance is it 4 colours, 1 colour, any special pantones needed?
  • Materials/Paper – weights and paper/board types such as matt art, wood free, white/grey board
  • Finishing – coatings such as lamination, spot UV, foil stamping, embossing along with the area required to cover
  • Binding – for books this would be board book, concertina, hardback, paperback etc
  • Delivery – whether you need your product shipped to an end destination or if you are transporting yourselves through a shipping company, whether we should deliver FOB Hong Kong port, or ex works at our factory.
  • Any special notes

How do I know if my files are print ready?

Hi-res print ready PDF’s will be needed for bulk production but please contact us for more details and we can provide a File Preparation Guideline document.

Is the shipping cost included in my quote?

Shipping and transportation will always be shown separately on our estimates, along with the shipping method.

How much will shipping be?

Shipping costs can vary depending on factors such as the weight of your product, the number of items in your order (whether this will be FCL – full container load – or LCL – less container load), outer carton quantity, the shipping destination(s) and whether you have a preferred shipping provider. Once we know more about your order, we would be happy to give you a shipping and transportation estimate based on your needs.

Can you arrange shipping to the UK for me?

Once we know more about your order, we would be happy to give you a shipping and transportation estimate based on your needs.

What does DAP and FOB mean?

These are called ‘incoterms’ – international delivery terms to define the role between the seller and buyer and determine who does what.

  • DAP – Delivered At Place (named place of destination): Seller pays for carriage to the named place, except for costs related to import clearance and assumes all risks prior to the point that the goods are ready for unloading by the buyer.
  • FOB – Free On Board: Seller delivers when the goods pass the ship’s rail at the named port of shipment, ie Hong Kong. This means the buyer has to bear all costs & risks to the goods from that point onwards. The seller must clear the goods for export.

What is the best way to supply my artwork files?

If it is a book then you would need to supply two pdf files, (cover/case and interior/text). The cover pdf should be supplied as a spread including the spine. The inner pdf should be supplied in the correct running order. Again, we can provide File Preparation Guidelines which should cover most paper and board products.

Do I need bleed and crop marks on my artwork?

Yes, this is very important, and we ask for at least 3mm bleed.

What is an advance copy?

An advance copy is a completed and final copy of your product item from the bulk order, which has been sent from the factory and will require your approval to release and then ship the bulk. Once approved, then Hung Hing will proceed to release and ship/ transport goods as per your instructions.

What are the manufacturing tolerances for the final unit quantity?

We call these Overs & Unders. Because Hung Hing are manufacturing products on a mass scale using a variety of stages and different machinery, it’s important to understand there will be tolerances during the manufacturing process. This also highlights the importance of quality control.

As a general rule, we work within guidelines to provide no more or less than 5% overs or 5% unders from your total ordered quantity.

Who do I send the Purchase Order to and who will I be invoiced by?

HHUK Creative & Print Services is the UK based sales office for Hung Hing Printing Group, and their HQ is based in Hong Kong. When an order is placed you will need to address this to Hung Hing Printing Group, Hong Kong as they are the company manufacturing your goods.

Can I speak to English speaking teams to help process my order?

Yes! Initially, you may work closely with our teams here in the UK and once you place an order, we will allocate you English speaking contacts in both our Hong Kong office and in the factory.  They will look after you throughout the whole process.

We here in the UK will also remain involved, to ensure you and your order are looked after.
